Rifle and Shotgun classes June 26th

Greg and I will be teaching two classes on Sunday, June 26th. One will be a USPSA/IMGA rifle class, and the other will be a USPSA/IMGA Shotgun class. You may take either or both. We do recommend taking both as much of the material will be complimentary. Using rifles and shotguns in competitions is very fun, but it can be very challenging too. The difference between being a fair long gun shooter and an very good one is huge, and we can show you how to get to the next level. Multigun is a growing sport and the prize tables are huge. You need to be on top of this wave with us.

The rifle class will be a 4 hour class, starting at 8:30am and will cover the skills necessary to compete in USPSA or IMGA rifle or multi-gun matches with a rifle. We'll go over equipment choices, ammunition, sight-ins and trajectories. Well use and discuss different types of targets, all types of functional issues, and we'll spend a lot of time on different shooting positions. We'll teach you how to set realistic goals and drills to help you acheive them. The cost for the rifle class is $120.

The shotgun class will be a 2 hour class, starting at 1:00pm and we're going to teach you skills needed to be a proficient shotgun shooter. Like the rifle class, we're going to talk about equipment choices, chokes, and ammunition. We're going to spend a lot of time on reloading as it is one the most critical skills in shotgun competition. We're going to work realistic goals and teach you the drills that will help you reach them. The cost for the shotgun class is $60.

Prerequisites
-you should have an excellent understanding of firearm safety
-you should be familiar with any guns you are bringing
-you should have a good understanding of the rules and range commands of USPSA
-you should already be an established USPSA handgun or multi-gun competitor

Required equipment
-eye protection
-ear protection
-400 rounds mimimum of reliable ammunition for your rifle
-200 rounds of shot. 7.5 or 8 shot. We recommend 3 drams equivalent and 1 or 1-1/8 oz of shot
-30 slugs
(We will probably not use all this amount of ammo, but you never know, and it's better to have too much than not enough).

-Rifle
-3 reliable rifle mags, 30 rounds are best for most things, but if you have 47s, 40s, 20s, Betas, or whatever bring them. We will talk about mags some and what their particular strengths and weaknesses are.
-bipod for rifle if shooting open
-sling for rifle
-optics and sights of all kinds if you might use them
-mag pouches and belt for your rifle mags
-any other useful rifle accessories you might have
-rifle case

-Shotgun
-speedloaders if you are open
-Mags if you are shooting a Siaga
-Shell strippers or something to hold shotgun shells on your belt
-optics and sights of all kinds if you might use them
-pouches for your shells if you have them
-any other useful shotgun accessories you might have
-chokes
-case for shotgun

-chair
-cap or brimmmed hat

If you're not sure about a piece of equipment it is better to bring it and not need it, than need it and not have it. You may also bring more than one rifle or shotgun if you're not sure which one is best for the class.

If you don't have something on the list contact me and we'll see if we can find you something to borrow for the class or maybe we can figure out where to buy it in time.

If you have any questions about this class or want to sign up do not hesitate to email me at hkbrt@verizon.net We expect these classes to fill quickly.

Basic Skills class May 15th

It's been almost a year since we've done a Basic USPSA Pistol Skills class and there seems to be a lot of demand so we've scheduled one for Sunday, May 15th. The start time will be 10:00am and the class will be about 4 hours long, plus a half hour break for lunch. The class will be limited to 15 students, which is slightly larger than we usally do, but both Greg and I will be there to make sure everyone gets plenty of personal instruction. The fee will be $120, and it will be due at the time of registration. To register contact me at hkbrt@verizon.net and we'll set things in motion.

The C class, D class, and unclassified shooter will gain the most from the basic class, but anyone who wants to work on the foundation which good USPSA shooting is built is welcome to take the class.

The primary focus of this class will be on the proper firing grip, the draw, and the reload as used in our sport. Multiple targets acquisition is central to USPSA shooting and we will deal with that at length. We will spend some time working with the fundamentals of accuracy and setting reasonable goals. We will teach you some of his favorite drills that you may practice to help you in all of the above areas. This is not a tactical or defense class we are only interested in USPSA shooting and only skills that relate to that will be discussed.

-a servicable and safe handgun in 9mm or larger
-4 magazines minimum
-a holster (no thigh rigs please)
-mag pouches to hold 4 mags
-a stiff belt
-eye protection

March 28th, 2011 Stage Break-down and advanced skills class

We are planning our first class of the year based on student request. On Monday, March 28th Greg and I will be holding a four hour class dedicated to breaking down stages, and match day strategy. This will be on a Monday morning so we can take advantage of the stages used the day before for our USPSA match. We will take a maximum of 6 students for this class so we can devote a lot of time to each individual. There will be a prerequisite for this class that everyone must be at least a C class shooter or have taken one of our classes before. We will not have time to work on basic skills this class.

The class will begin at 8:00am and we will finish up around 12:00pm. You will need all of your match gear and at least 400 rounds of ammunition.

If you are interested in taking this class email me at hkbrt@verizon.net and I will get you the information needed for registration. We will only be taking 6 people for this class and expect it to fill quickly. The fee for this class is $150.

We recommend that you shoot the USPSA match the day before, but it not required, and if you are traveling some distance and would like to stay in town Sunday night I can arrange a very good rate at a local hotel. Ask me about it.

June 27th, 2010 USPSA Basic Skills class

I have been very busy and just haven't made the time to do these classes recently like I should. The shooters who have taken them in the past have found them very infomative and their shooting has improved dramatically. The solution has been to bring in another instructor. The next basic skills class will be taught by Greg Jordan. Greg is a Grand Master shooter, and a instructor for a local police department. He has a firm grasp of the sport and is able to relate it extremely well to others.

Greg's first class will be held at our club on Sunday, the 27th of June. The start time will be 9:00am and the class will be about 4 hours long. The class will be limited to 10 students. The fee will be $100, and it will be due at the time of registration. To register contact me at hkbrt@verizon.net and we'll set things in motion.

Intermediate USPSA classes

I will be holding two intermediate classes on Sunday, June 28th from 1:00pm until 4:00pm and Thursday July 2nd from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The basic skills classes were great and I think most if not all of the people in them learned a lot and were very satisfied. In this class we will pick up where we left off and focus primarily on movement and engaging targets quickly. These skills are more complex than they sound and the difference between doing them fairly well and very well is huge. This class will be limited to 6 members because you will be shooting one at a time, but you will get plenty of shootinig in I promise. Cost of this class is $60-

This is not a tactical or defense class we are only interested in USPSA shooting and only skills that relate to that will be discussed.

Required equipment:
-a servicable and safe handgun in 9mm or larger
-4 magazines minimum
-a holster (no thigh rigs please)
-mag pouches to hold 4 mags
-a stiff belt
-eye protection
-ear protection
-200 rounds minimum of reliable ammunition
-a chair might be nice, though not required
-a cap or brimmmed hat is recommended to block the sun out of you eyes, but is not required either

Prerequisite:
-you must have taken one of my basic level classes

Multi-gun class

Dean Deturk, the Match Director at Topton, and a well known multi-gun competitor and I will be teaming up to host an entry level Multi-gun class at our club in York on Sunday, May 31st. Multi-gun can be intimidating because of the sheer amount of equipment you must have and the complicated procedures used to deal with multiple guns safely.

If you do not own a rifle or shotgun suitable for this class you may borrow ours. We would like you to let us know this ahead of time. It makes sense to take this class and use our equipment so you can make more educated purchases, so don't be hesistant to do so.
